Friends of Children is announcing an interstate conference on best practices and innovative solutions at the intersection of child welfare and parental addiction:
CHILDREN IN THE MIDDLE:
THE INTERSECTION OF PARENTAL ADDICTION
AND CHILD PROTECTION
Cape Cod, MA
Meals included. Onsite overnight accommodations available.
As the opioid public health crisis surges, substance use disorders have had an increasingly powerful impact on all child welfare practice areas. Parental substance abuse is a primary reason for both the increase in entries into the child welfare system and the decrease in rates of reunification. Friends of Children is holding a two-day conference for providers, practitioners, researchers, and advocates to deepen understanding of and continue dialogue around excellence in practice and policy on what works to improve the outcomes and well-being of children, youth and families at all phases of child welfare system involvement and substance abuse recovery.
Presenters and participants will share knowledge of current and emerging evidence-based and evidence-informed best practices in the treatment and care of families impacted by addiction and to promote multi-disciplinary collaborative approaches that lead to better outcomes for children and youth.
This conference is encouraged for public and private professionals across all fields of child welfare and parental substance abuse, including: public and private child welfare and substance abuse treatment providers; juvenile and family court judges and attorneys; law enforcement; probation officers; prevention specialists; maternal and public health agencies; health care professionals; researchers and evaluators; educators; community organizations serving youth; children and adult mental health providers; and advocates. CLEs and CEUs available.
