Friends of Children To Expand to Greater Boston in Late 2022

After 31 years of award-winning work from our base in western Massachusetts, Friends of Children is creating a second home for our critical service and advocacy in Greater Boston.

In Boston, we’ll expand our programming to directly serve even more young people–and we’ll help young people in the foster-care system have an even greater voice at the Statehouse, where the policies that shape their lives are made.

Expanding Our Direct Service

We’ll expand our uniquely effective work to address the serious unmet needs of young people aging out of the foster care system without permanent community or family support. Our FOCUS Program provides long-term mentors for young adults as they navigate the challenges of leaving foster care. FOCUS offers young adults a safety net, helps them build social capital, and helps them develop critical skills so they can launch successful, independent adult lives.

In Greater Boston, we’ll also expand our Foster Dignity Program, which respects children, youth, and young adults by meeting the material needs that are not met by the foster care system or others.

Through Seeing Our Voices, young people impacted by the foster-care system in Greater Boston will be able to express their experiences creatively through the arts.

Amplifying Our Advocacy

In Boston, we’ll expand our policy advocacy to inspire critical legislative changes needed for children, youth, and young adults in the child-welfare system.

Young people impacted by involvement in the foster care and juvenile justice systems can be resilient and flourish when they are woven into the fabric of community life through meaningful connections. To make this happen, they need the commitment of us all. Children should never leave these systems in worse shape than when they were thrust into them.

“I wish all kids could get the services Friends of Children provides when they need them. Can’t wait to see you in eastern Massachusetts!”

— Sandy Bravo, Founder and CEO of The 440K Project Inc.
