Jane Yulman Lyons has dedicated her career to children’s rights.
Before beginning her tenure at Friends of Children, she served as a Child Advocate at the Massachusetts Office for Children, helping thousands of children gain access to critical services. She also was the recipient of awards, including the Carballo Award for Excellence, given to her after she helped initiate a treatment program for youthful sexual offenders in the state.
As the Executive Director of Friends of Children for over 20 years, Jane’s mission is to expose the truth about the needs of vulnerable children. She aims to give children power and respect so they can imagine a future and succeed in it. Her advocacy leadership on issues related to public foster care is well regarded by professionals, parents and youth.
In early 2014, Jane was again honored for her work by Community Action of the Franklin, Hampshire and North Quabbin regions, which presented her with the Jane Sanders Achievement Award in honor of Community Action’s former executive director.
She was the first employee of Friends of Children when it was founded in the late 1980s.
